History
Formed in 1883 from Pecos County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Reeves County was created from Pecos County on April 14, 1883, but was not fully organized until November 4, 1884. Three counties—Loving, Ward, and Winkler—were created from Tom Green County in 1887 and initially attached to Reeves County for judicial and other purposes. Ward became fully organized and detached in 1892, Winkler in 1910, and Loving in 1931, though Loving was disorganized and reattached to Reeves in 1897 before being organized again.
