History
Founded in 1858
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wichita County was created in 1858 from Young Territory and named after the Wichita people. From 1860 to 1882, the county remained unorganized and was repeatedly attached to neighboring counties for judicial purposes, including Clay and Montague. The county was fully organized on June 21, 1882, when it was detached from Clay County.
