Privacy Policy
Parcel Chart helps people keep everything about a property in one place: the parcel, what is on it, projects, money, tasks and documents. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Parcel Chart website (www.parcelchart.com, including the county pages under /places/), the Parcel Chart app (app.parcelchart.com and the iPhone and Mac apps), and the Parcel Chart connector for AI assistants. It also says who processes that data for us, how long we keep it, and how you can export or delete it.
1. Who we are
Parcel Chart is operated by Scaleset LLC ("we", "us"). For anything about this policy or your data, write to info@parcelchart.com.
2. What we collect
Your account
- Your email address and, if you give one, your display name.
- Your password, which we store only as a one-way bcrypt hash.
- Your sessions: the kind of sign-in (browser, phone or Mac app, an assistant connection), the device or assistant name, and when it was created and last used.
What you put into Parcel Chart
- Places: names, addresses, notes, and the parcel each is linked to.
- Site maps: buildings, rooms and floor plans, yards, fences, trees, utilities and the other features you draw, measure or confirm, and the 3D models built from them.
- Photos and documents you upload, including the metadata in a photo: the location (GPS), compass heading and time it was taken, and drone camera angles and altitude. When we read a document or photo for you, we keep the extracted text and what was read from it.
- Your timeline and journal entries, projects, contracts, permits, invoices, payments and budgets, and tasks and bills. We do not collect card or bank numbers; a payment record holds only what you type, such as an amount and "check".
- Information about other people that you choose to record, such as a contractor's or neighbor's name, email and phone number. Please only add what you have a reason to keep.
- Invitations you send: the invitee's email and the place, project or organization you shared.
- Feedback you send from the app.
When you write to us
- The waitlist form: your name, email, message, and the county page you came from.
- The contact form: your name (optional), email, message, and the page you came from. We use your IP address briefly, in memory, to limit how many messages can be sent; we do not store it.
- Email you send to info@parcelchart.com.
Technical data
- Access logs. Our content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront) logs each request to our websites and app: your IP address, browser user agent, the referring page, and the address requested, including its query string. One-time links (for example a password reset or an assistant's sign-in link) can appear in these logs; they expire within an hour or less and cannot be reused.
- Server logs on our application servers record errors and the recipient and subject of each email we send.
- Assistant activity. When an AI assistant uses Parcel Chart on your behalf, we log which action it called, when, and whether it worked (not the content). When an assistant opens a one-time browser link, we record the IP address and browser that opened it, so you can see where your account was used.
- AI usage. For each AI feature we run, we record the task, model, size, cost and outcome, without the prompt or the answer.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, session recording or error tracking services, and we do not sell or rent personal data.
3. Cookies and storage on your device
| Name | Where | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
scaleset_session (cookie) |
app.parcelchart.com | Keeps you signed in. Essential. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. | 30 days with "Keep me signed in", otherwise 1 day; 1 hour for an assistant's browser link |
parcelchart.freemap.clicks (local storage) |
The public map, in your browser | Counts how many parcels you opened today on the free map, to apply its daily allowance. It holds a date and a number, never which parcels, and is never sent to us. | Replaced each day; stays until you clear site data |
anon_id (cookie) — planned, not yet set |
app.parcelchart.com | A random first-party id so we can count, in our own database, how visitors move from the map to saving a place (for example "parcel opened", "sign-up started", "place saved"). These events record only the event name, the time, the tier, phone or desktop, and the county. They never record your IP address, your searches, the parcels an anonymous visitor opens, or your email before you sign up. When you create an account the id is linked to it once and the cookie is removed. Deleting your account deletes your events. | [duration to set] |
| App preferences and offline copies (local storage, IndexedDB, session storage) | The app, in your browser | Your theme and map preferences, unsent drafts, the in-app assistant conversation (cleared when the tab closes), and an offline copy of places you open, including contacts and photos, so the app works without a connection. | Until you clear site data, remove a place's offline copy, or delete your account in that browser |
The marketing site and county pages set no cookies. Because we only use essential cookies and first-party counting, we do not show a cookie banner. The iPhone and Mac apps keep your sign-in in the device Keychain and a few view preferences on the device.
4. How we use your data
- To provide Parcel Chart: store your places and records, show your maps, build 3D models, and sync your devices.
- To run the AI features you use (section 5).
- To send the email the service needs: invitations, password resets, account notices and replies to you.
- To keep the service secure and working: preventing abuse and scraping, enforcing limits, fixing problems.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the product is used, using our own logs and events (section 3).
- To comply with the law.
We do not use your places, documents or photos to train AI models, and we do not let our providers do so.
5. AI features and assistants
Some features use AI models: reading a document or a plan, reading trees, materials and windows from a photo, turning a journal entry into tasks and records, and the in-app assistant. To do this we send the relevant content — which can include property details, addresses, photos, document text and your messages — to Anthropic's Claude models through Amazon Bedrock, operated by Amazon Web Services. Under AWS's terms, content sent to Bedrock is not used to train models and is not shared with the model provider. We also use Amazon Textract to read the text of scanned documents, with AWS's AI services opt-out set so that Textract does not keep or use that content [set the opt-out policy and confirm Bedrock invocation logging is off before launch]. Bedrock may process a request in an AWS region outside the United States.
The in-app assistant's conversation is kept in your browser tab, not on our servers; what it proposes and you accept is saved to your place like anything else you enter. AI output can be wrong; nothing it suggests changes your records until you confirm it.
Your own AI assistant. You can connect an assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Grok to your account. Whatever that assistant reads from or writes to Parcel Chart passes through its provider (for example Anthropic, OpenAI or xAI) under your own account and their privacy policy, not ours. You can see and end each connection in Account → Assistants.
6. Who processes data for us
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (US, us-east-1) | Hosting, database, file storage, email (SES), content delivery (CloudFront), AI (Bedrock), document reading (Textract) | Everything described above, stored encrypted at rest |
| Mapbox | Satellite imagery on the map | Your IP address, browser, and which map tiles you view (so, roughly which area you are looking at) |
| Overture Maps Foundation data on AWS; the MapLibre font server | Building and road outlines, map label fonts | Your IP address and the map area requested |
| Google Fonts; jsDelivr | Fonts on this site and the county pages; a 3D library on the app's 3D view page | Your IP address and browser |
| Apple | Maps in the iPhone and Mac apps | The map area you view, under Apple's privacy policy |
| Google (Gmail) | Our team inbox | Email to info@parcelchart.com, and copies of waitlist and contact form messages |
Public parcel, building, flood, soil, zoning and imagery data comes from official government sources and public datasets. When we look up data around your place, those sources see only the map area requested, never who you are.
When you share a place, project or organization, the people you invite see what you shared with them. We may disclose data if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of people and the service, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Your account and everything in it | Until you delete it (or the place, document or record) |
| Database backups | 7 days |
| Deleted files in storage | [30 days — lifecycle rule to apply before launch] |
| Access logs (CloudFront) | [90 days — lifecycle rule to apply before launch; counted into anonymous totals first] |
| Application server logs | [set and state a period] |
| Email to info@parcelchart.com (raw copy) | 1 year; the forwarded copy in our inbox as long as we need it to help you |
| Waitlist and contact form messages | Until you ask us to delete them, or you delete your account (same email) |
| Assistant activity log | [set a period]; your name is removed from it when you delete your account |
| Assistant browser-link records (IP address and browser) | [set a period]; deleted with your account |
| AI usage records | Kept for accounting, with your name and place removed when you delete your account |
| Signed-in sessions | Until they expire or you sign out, and deleted with your account |
8. Export and delete your data
In the app, open Account → Your data.
- Download my data gives you one zip file with everything in the organizations you own — places, site maps, documents and photos, timeline, projects, money and tasks — as JSON with the original files.
- Delete account asks you to type your email and password, then immediately deletes your account and every organization you alone own, with all their places, records and files, ends every session and assistant connection, and emails you a confirmation. People you shared places with lose access. Anything you added to a place someone else owns stays with that place, shown as from "Deleted account". Waitlist and contact messages sent from your email are deleted too.
After deletion, copies can remain for a short time in database backups, deleted-file storage and logs, for the periods in section 7, after which they are gone. We keep anonymous AI usage records and may keep what the law requires (for example, invoices once paid plans exist). Deleting your account does not clear offline copies on devices where you are signed out; sign in and delete from that device, or clear the browser's site data.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and you can object to or ask us to limit how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else write to info@parcelchart.com. We will answer within 30 days and will not treat you differently for asking. Depending on where you live (for example California, Virginia or other US states, the UK or the EU) you may have further rights, including to complain to your data protection authority. [Counsel: state-specific notices, legal bases for UK/EU visitors.]
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are hashed, sign-in and invitation tokens are stored only as hashes, and every record is separated by organization in the database itself. Files are in private storage. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
11. Children
Parcel Chart is not meant for children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Where data is processed
We store data in the United States. If you use Parcel Chart from elsewhere, your data is transferred to and processed in the US, and AI requests may be processed in other AWS regions (section 5).
13. Changes
We will post any change here with a new date, and for a significant change we will tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect.
