An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Gray County was created from Bexar Territory and Wegefarth County on November 19, 1876, and named after Peter W. Gray. The county was initially attached to Clay County for judicial purposes, then to Wheeler County in 1879, and to Roberts County in 1895, before being fully organized and detached in 1902.
