History
Formed in 1846 from Bowie County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Cass County was created on April 25, 1846 from Bowie County, though it was not fully organized until July 13, 1846. The county was named after Lewis Cass. In 1861, Cass County was renamed Davis, but on May 23, 1871 it was renamed back to Cass. Cass County lost territory to Marion County in 1860.
