History
Formed in 1858 from Bosque County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Jones County was created from Young Territory in 1858, though not fully organized at that time. After creation, Jones was attached to various counties for judicial purposes: Palo Pinto in 1860, Jack in 1874, and Shackelford in 1876. Jones was fully organized and detached from Shackelford in 1881. Stonewall County was attached to Jones in 1883 for judicial purposes but became fully organized and detached in 1888.
