History
Formed in 1887 from Presidio County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Brewster County was created from Presidio County on February 2, 1887, but was not fully organized until February 22 of that year. In March 1887, three new counties—Buchel, Foley, and Jeff Davis—were created from Presidio, with all three initially attached to Brewster County for judicial purposes. Jeff Davis County was fully organized and detached from Brewster in June 1887, while Buchel and Foley counties were eventually eliminated, with their lands returned to Brewster County by 1897.
