History
Formed in 1876 from Wegefarth County and Clay County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Collingsworth County was created from the extinct Wegefarth County on November 19, 1876, and named after James Collinsworth. Initially unorganized and attached to Clay County, it was later attached to Wheeler County in 1879, then Childress County in 1889, before becoming fully organized and independent in 1890.
