History
Formed in 1876 from Tom Green County and Shackelford County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Martin County was created on November 19, 1876, from Tom Green and Shackelford counties but was not fully organized at first and was attached to Shackelford for judicial and surveying purposes. Over the following years, Martin County was successively attached to Mitchell, Howard, and other counties for judicial purposes as nearby counties were created and organized, until Martin itself was fully organized in November 1884.
