History
Formed in 1876 from Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Moore County was created from Bexar Territory on November 19, 1876, and named after Edwin Ward Moore, but was not fully organized at that time and was attached to Jack County for judicial, surveying and all other purposes. Over the following years, Moore County was detached from Jack County and attached to Wheeler County in 1879, then to Oldham County in 1881, and to Potter County in 1889, for judicial purposes. Moore County became fully organized and was detached from Potter County on July 5, 1892.
