History
Formed in 1876 from Hardeman County and Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Cottle County was created from Hardeman County and Young Territory on November 19, 1876, but was not fully organized and was initially attached to Jack County for all purposes. Between 1881 and 1892, the county was attached for judicial purposes to Jack, Baylor, Wilbarger, Hardeman, and Childress counties in succession, while losing territory to the creation of Foard County in 1891. Cottle County became fully organized and independent on January 11, 1892.
