History
Formed in 1876 from Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Castro County was created from Jack Territory on November 19, 1876, but was not fully organized at that time and was attached to Jack County for judicial and other purposes. Over the following decades, Castro was attached to Wheeler County in 1879, then to Oldham County in 1881, before becoming fully organized and independent on December 21, 1891. In 1892, Bailey and Lamb counties were attached to Castro for judicial purposes, though Lamb County was fully organized and detached in 1908, followed by Bailey County by 1919.
