History
Formed in 1837 from Nacogdoches County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Fannin County was created by the Republic of Texas from Nacogdoches on December 14, 1837, and was fully organized by February 1838. In November 1839, Fannin gained territory from Bexar, Nacogdoches, and Robertson Counties, extending to the North Fork of the Red River and overlapping into present Oklahoma. When Texas became a state in 1845, Fannin became a county, but in March 1846 the portion in present Oklahoma was eliminated and reverted to Fannin Land District.
