History
Formed in 1858 from Atascosa County and Uvalde County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Frio County was created from Atascosa, Uvalde, and Bexar Land District but was not fully organized at its founding. Throughout the 1860s, Frio was attached to neighboring counties for judicial purposes: first to Atascosa, then temporarily to Live Oak, back to Atascosa, and later to Medina. Frio became fully organized and independent in 1871, though it continued to have temporary judicial attachments to other counties until 1884.
