History
Formed in 1846 from Grayson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Collin County was created from non-county area of Fannin Land District on April 3, 1846, which created an overlap with Grayson County. Part of the Fannin Land District attached to Collin was lost to the creation of Denton County in 1846 and Cooke County in 1848. The overlap with Grayson County was resolved in 1848, with Collin retaining control of the disputed area.
