History
Formed in 1846 from Milam County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Burleson County was named after Edward Burleson. The county was created on March 24, 1846, but was not fully organized until July 13, 1846. In 1856, Burleson County exchanged land with Bastrop County. In 1874, Burleson County was divided when it lost territory to the creation of Lee County.
