History
Formed in 1856 from Bosque County and Coryell County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Erath County was created on January 25, 1856, from non-county areas attached to Bosque and Coryell Counties, and was fully organized by August of that year. The county was named after George Bernard Erath. In 1866, Erath gained territory from Palo Pinto County but lost land to the creation of Hood County.
