History
Formed in 1835 from San Augustine County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sabine County was created from San Augustine as a municipality by the Provisional Government of Texas on December 15, 1835. It became a county in the Republic of Texas on March 17, 1836, and later became a county in the newly-established state of Texas on December 29, 1845. In 1837, Sabine exchanged territory with Shelby and lost land to Jasper and San Augustine.
