An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Jeff Davis County was created from Presidio County on March 15, 1887, but was not fully organized and was initially attached to Brewster County for judicial purposes. The county became fully organized and detached from Brewster County on June 1, 1887. A boundary dispute with Presidio County was resolved on November 11, 1903, confirming the 1887 boundary.
