History
Formed in 1876 from Wegefarth County and Clay County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Donley County was created on November 19, 1876, from Wegefarth County, though it was not fully organized at that time and was initially attached to Clay County for administrative purposes. The county was fully organized by March 22, 1882, after being detached from Wheeler County, and subsequently served as a judicial seat for several neighboring counties before many detached and organized independently over the following years.
