History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Leon County was created from Robertson County on March 17, 1846, and fully organized later that year on July 13. The county was named after Martín De León and the grey wolf. In 1853, Leon County lost territory to the creation of Madison County.
