History

Formed in 1891 from Lincoln County and Chaves County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Eddy County was created from Lincoln County on January 1, 1891, but was not fully organized and was initially attached to Chaves County for judicial purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Chaves County on May 16, 1891. In 1895, Eddy County gained territory from Lincoln County, and in 1917, it lost territory with the creation of Lea County.
