History

Founded in 1875

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Crockett County was created from the Bexar Land District on January 22, 1875, and named after Davy Crockett. The county was not fully organized at its creation and was attached to Kinney County for judicial purposes. Over its early years, Crockett lost land to the creation of Val Verde, Pecos, Edwards, Schleicher, and Sutton counties. The county was finally fully organized and detached from Val Verde on July 7, 1891.
