History

Formed in 1876 from Shackelford County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Borden County was created from Young Territory on November 19, 1876, but remained unorganized and attached to Shackelford County for all purposes. Over the following years, Borden County was attached to Mitchell County in 1881, then to Howard County in 1883 for judicial purposes. Borden County was fully organized and detached from Howard County on March 17, 1891. Garza County was attached to Borden County in 1893 for judicial purposes, then became fully organized and detached in 1907.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
