History
Founded in 1858
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Hardeman County was created from Young Territory in 1858 but was not fully organized at that time. For the next 26 years, the county was attached to neighboring counties for judicial purposes, including Montague, Young, Clay, Baylor, and Wilbarger. In 1884, Hardeman was fully organized and detached from Wilbarger County.
