History
Formed in 1876 from Tom Green County and Shackelford County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Andrews County was created from Tom Green County and Young Territory on November 19, 1876, but was not fully organized and was attached to Shackelford County for judicial and administrative purposes. Between 1881 and 1909, Andrews County was attached for judicial purposes to several neighboring counties in succession: Shackelford, Mitchell, Howard, Martin, and Midland. The county was finally fully organized and detached from Midland County on July 16, 1910.
