History
Founded in 1850
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Presidio County was created in 1850 but remained unorganized until 1875, when it was fully organized after being detached from El Paso County. The county lost substantial territory over time, including land ceded to the creation of Pecos County in 1871 and Brewster, Buchel, Foley, and Jeff Davis counties in 1887, though it gained some territory back from Brewster and Foley in 1889.
