History
Formed in 1876 from Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sherman County was named after Sidney Sherman and created from Bexar Territory on November 19, 1876, but was not initially organized and was attached to Jack County for all purposes. The county was successively attached to Wheeler County in 1879, then Oldham County in 1881, and Potter County in 1889 for judicial purposes, before becoming fully organized and independent in June 1889.
