History

Founded in 1877

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

McMullen County was created in 1858 from Atascosa, Live Oak, and Nueces Counties, but remained unorganized for nearly two decades. It was attached to Live Oak County for judicial purposes in 1860, and went through boundary adjustments with neighboring counties before being fully organized and detached from Live Oak in 1877.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
