History
Formed in 1876 from Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Floyd County was created from Young Territory on November 19, 1876, and initially attached to Jack County for all administrative purposes. The county was named after Dolphin Ward Floyd. Floyd County was moved between counties for judicial purposes—attached to Baylor County in 1881, then Donley County in 1883, and then Crosby County in 1887—before becoming fully organized and independent in 1890.
