History
Formed in 1854 from Hill County and Bosque County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Johnson County was created in 1854 from territory attached to Hill and Bosque counties but was not fully organized until August 7, 1854. In 1866, Johnson County lost territory to the creation of Hood County; in 1871, it gained territory from Ellis County, and in 1881, it gained a small area from Hill County.
