History
Formed in 1848 from Henderson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Kaufman County was created from Henderson County on February 26, 1848, though it was not fully organized until August 7, 1848. The county gained and lost territory to neighboring counties multiple times: it gained from Henderson and lost to Van Zandt in 1850, briefly gained from Henderson in 1861 before that gain was repealed in 1862, and lost territory to the creation of Rockwall County in 1873.
