History
Founded in 1834
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
San Patricio was established as a municipality by Mexico in April 1834, then became a county in the Republic of Texas in 1836. After Texas statehood in 1845, San Patricio was reorganized and officially became a state county in December 1845. Over the following decades, San Patricio exchanged territory with neighboring counties including Bexar, Goliad, Nueces, and Refugio, and lost land to the creation of Karnes, Live Oak, and Bee counties.
