History

Formed in 1866 from Erath County, Johnson County and Palo Pinto County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hood County was created from Erath, Johnson, and Palo Pinto counties on November 2, 1866, though it was not fully organized until December 25, 1866. In 1875, Hood County lost land to the creation of Somervell County.
