History
Formed in 1876 from Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Hale County was created from Young Territory on November 19, 1876, but was not fully organized at that time. After its creation, Hale County was attached to Jack County, then successively to Baylor County, Donley County, and Crosby County for judicial purposes as those areas were being organized. The county became fully organized on August 4, 1888, when it was detached from Crosby County. Over the following years, several neighboring counties including Bailey, Cochran, Hockley, Lamb, and Swisher were initially attached to Hale County for judicial purposes before being organized as separate counties.
