Lipscomb County was created from Bexar Territory on November 19, 1876, but was initially attached to Clay County for judicial and administrative purposes. The county was detached from Clay County in 1879 and attached to Wheeler County, then fully organized in June 1887. Hansford County was briefly attached to Lipscomb for judicial purposes in 1889 before being fully organized and detached.
