History
Formed in 1876 from Wegefarth County and Jack County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Briscoe County was named after Andrew Briscoe and was created from Wegefarth County and Young Territory. At its creation in 1876, Briscoe County was not fully organized and was initially attached to Jack County for all purposes. Over the following years, it was successively attached to Wheeler County in 1879 and Donley County in 1883 for judicial purposes. Briscoe County became fully organized and independent on March 15, 1892.
