History

Founded in 1825

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Troup County was created on June 9, 1825, from Pike County and non-county area, and was renamed from Section the Third on December 11, 1826. The county was named after George Troup. Over its early decades, Troup County gained and lost territory through transfers with neighboring counties including Carroll, Coweta, Harris, Meriwether, Talbot, and Heard.
