History

Formed in 1832 from Cherokee County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Floyd County was created from Cherokee County on December 3, 1832. The county's boundaries shifted frequently over the next two decades through exchanges, gains, and losses of territory with neighboring counties including Chattooga, Cass (now Bartow), Gordon, Paulding, and Polk.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
