History

Founded in 1777

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Glynn County was created from St. David Parish and St. Patrick Parish on February 7, 1777, and was named after John Glynn. Over the following decades, the county experienced multiple boundary adjustments, gaining sea islands from Liberty County in 1789 and exchanging or losing land to Wayne County and gaining from Camden County through the mid-1800s.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
