History

Formed in 1807 from Baldwin County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Putnam County was created from Baldwin County on December 10, 1807, and named after Israel Putnam. The county lost territory to Jones County in 1810 and to Jasper County in 1842, though the loss to Jasper was reversed in 1854 when the 1842 act was repealed.
