History

Formed in 1812 from Bulloch County and Montgomery County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Emanuel County was created on December 10, 1812 from Bulloch and Montgomery counties. The county was named after David Emanuel. Over the next century, Emanuel County exchanged land with Bulloch County, gained and lost territory to Jefferson and Johnson counties multiple times, and contributed land to the creation of Jenkins County in 1905 and Toombs County in 1905.
