History
Formed in 1858 from Clinch County and Lowndes County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Echols County was created on December 13, 1858, from Clinch and Lowndes counties. The county exchanged small areas with Lowndes County multiple times between 1860 and 1952, with Echols losing land in 1860, 1866, and 1877, then gaining back land in 1952.
