History

Formed in 1807 from Wilkinson County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Laurens County was created from Wilkinson County in 1807 and named after John Laurens. The county lost territory to the creation of Pulaski County in 1808 and to the creation of Johnson County in 1858, but gained land from Montgomery and Washington counties in 1811 and from Montgomery County in 1859.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
