History

Formed in 1851 from Murray County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Whitfield County was created from Murray County in 1851. In 1853, Whitfield gained territory from Walker County but lost territory to the creation of Catoosa County. Over subsequent decades, Whitfield exchanged small areas with Walker and Catoosa Counties to accommodate private individuals and adjust boundaries.
