History

Founded in 1818

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Walton County was created from non-county area on December 15, 1818, and gained territory from Jackson County three days later. Over the next several decades, Walton exchanged land with neighboring counties including Gwinnett, and lost territory that became Jasper, Henry, and Newton counties.
