History
Formed in 1790 from Richmond County and Burke County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Columbia County was created from Richmond and Burke on December 10, 1790. The county lost territory in 1793 with the creation of Warren County, and again in 1870 with the creation of McDuffie County. Several boundary adjustments occurred between Columbia and neighboring counties over the next century.
