History

Formed in 1854 from Gilmer County, Murray County and Union County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Fannin County was created from Gilmer, Murray, and Union counties and named after James Fannin. In 1856, part of the county was lost to Murray, but Fannin regained territory from Gilmer in 1860 and again in 1870.
