History

Founded in 1777

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Richmond was created in 1777 from St. Paul Parish as one of Georgia's original counties. The county was named after Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond. It lost territory to the creation of Columbia County in 1790 and Warren County in 1793.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
