History

Formed in 1854 from Clinch County, Irwin County, Telfair County and Ware County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Coffee County was created on February 9, 1854, from parts of Clinch, Irwin, Telfair, and Ware counties and named after John E. Coffee. During its early years, the county underwent numerous boundary adjustments with neighboring counties including Irwin, Clinch, Appling, and Telfair to accommodate private land interests.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
